Special capacitors

FILTERING CAPACITORS (MKP - cylindrical cases)

Application
These capacitors are for use on dc supplies and are intended to protect the network from momentary voltage spikes and surges and for filtering out ac ripple.
Construction
The self-healing capacitor elements are enclosed in a cylindrical aluminium case, which is filled with a vegetable oil based, non-toxic, biodegradable, environmentally friendly, gel. The case is fitted with an overpressure disconnector and an M12 mounting stud, which is also used for the protective conductor connection.
Standard
The capacitors comply with IEC 61071:1991.
Installation instructions
Capacitor life will be shortened by excess temperatures. The capacitor may be mounted in any position, using the M12 stud. The connection cables (10mm –16mm) must allow 20mm free movement of the capacitor top for safe
operation of the overpressure disconnector.


FILTERING CAPACITORS (MKP - square cases)

Application
These capacitors are for use on dc supplies and are intended to protect the network from momentary voltage spikes and surges and for filtering out ac ripple.
Construction
The self-healing, dry-type, capacitor elements are produced using specially structured, segmented, metallised PP film which ensures low self-inductance, high rupture resistance and high reliability. These elements are enclosed in a square steel case, which is filled with vegetable-oil based, non-toxic, biodegradable, environmentally friendly, solid matter. Overpressure disconnection is not considered necessary. The capacitor top is sealed with
self-extinguishing PU resin.
Standard
The capacitors comply with IEC 61071:1991.
Installation instructions
Capacitor life will be shortened by excess temperatures. The capacitor may be mounted in any position, using the 6-12mm fixing holes. M6 connections, maximum torque 4Nm.


DAMPING CAPACITORS – IGBT (MKP - cylindrical cases)

Application
Damping capacitors are used for protecting semiconductors (IGBT transistors). They are charged and discharged repetitively. Very high peak currents are carried.
Construction
The self-healing capacitor elements are enclosed in a cylindrical plastic case sealed with PU resin. They are constructed from PP film impregnated with mineral oil for the dielectric with double sided, metalised paper electrodes. This enables the unit to carry high inrush currents with low self-inductance and series resistance.

DAMPING CAPACITORS – GTO (MKV - cylindrical cases)


Application
These low inductance capacitors are ac units for connection in parallel with GTO thyristors to limit the steepness of the edge of the periodic reverse voltage of the thyristors.
Construction
The self-healing capacitor elements are enclosed in a cylindrical aluminium case. They are constructed from PP film impregnated with mineral oil for the dielectric with double sided, metalised paper electrodes. This ensures high voltage loading with low losses. The case is fitted with an overpressure disconnector and an M12 mounting stud, which is also used for the protective conductor connection.
Standard
The capacitors comply with IEC 61071:1991.
Installation instructions
Capacitor life will be shortened by excess temperatures. The capacitors must not be mounted close to the heating source, the temperature of the case should be checked under the most adverse conditions likely to be encountered in service (maximum voltage, current and cooling air temperature). The capacitors must not be situated close to high current conductors, to avoid heating by eddy currents.
The capacitor must be mounted in vertically, using the M12 stud. The connection cables must allow 20mm free movement of the capacitor top for safe operation of the overpressure disconnector.
M12 stud, maximum torque 5Nm, M10 connections, maximum torque 8Nm.



HIGH VOLTAGE DC CAPACITORS (MKP - cylindrical cases)


Application
These capacitors are for use on dc supplies and are used for general purposes, particularly in electronic equipment.
Construction
The capacitors are self healing, dry MKP technology. Elements are enclosed in a cylindrical aluminium case filled with vegetable-oil based, non toxic, biodegradable, environmentally friendly, solid matter. The case is fitted with an overpressure disconnector and an M12 mounting stud, which is also used for the protective conductor connection. No discharge resistors are fitted, parameters and dimensions are listed in the table.

COMMUTATING CAPACITORS (MKV - cylindrical cases)

Application
The capacitors are applied in forced commutation convertors. They components ensure thyristor switching off together with other circuit.
Construction
Commutating capacitors are in self-healing version, type MKV. The active part is situated in cylindrical case, capacitor outlets are represented by mounted or soldered bushings. They are provided with overpressure disconnector. PP film like dielectric is impregnated with mineral oil. The electrodes are made from both-side metallized capacitor paper with reinforced edges. Selfhealing ability together with complete impregnation guarantees high voltage loading of capacitor, low losses are achieved by using PP film dielectric.

Installation Instructions
The service conditions are depended on the temperature of capacitors. The capacitors must not be used at vicinity of the sources of heating radiation. After installation it is necessary to verify if the case temperature is lower than max. service temperature under the highest service loading (voltage, current, temperature of cooling air). The capacitors must not be situated near the high current conductors due to avoiding post-heating by eddy currents. They shall be mounted in vertical position. Connecting conductors have to enable the movement of capacitor lid about 20 mm upwards because of function of the overpressure disconnector.
